Clever Invention

The word "blog" is a shortening of the word "weblog", which is a combination of "web", as in the "world wide web" and "log", a regular record of events. How about that? Those clever webloggers in the 1990s and their linguistic invention made just the way most inventions are made: by taking two seemingly unrelated things and putting them together to create a third, separate entity.
